Gur Ke Chawal
A very basic recipe of rice sweetened and flavoured with jaggery.
    Preparation Method
  1. Wash rice thoroughly. Soak it for 30 minutes. Drain. Keep aside.
  2. On a low flame, melt ghee in a pan. Add rice. Sauté for 5 minutes. Add 2 cups water. Cover and cook till the rice feels tender.
  3. In a small pan, add jaggery to hot water. Stir well till the jaggery melts. Strain it.
  4. Add the jaggery water to cooked rice. Simmer. Stir gently till the water is absorbed.
  5. Add saffron paste and cardamom powder. Serve hot.
    Additional Note
  • Left over rice can also be used. Add jaggery water. Simmer.

  4. 1/2 cup jaggery (finely cut)
  5. 1/2 cup hot water (for jaggery)
  6. To Garnish (optional)
  7. cardamom powder
  8. saffron paste
